Privacy Policy
How ORBE Allende collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit www.orbeallende.org or contact us.
Effective date: October 20, 2026 · Last updated: October 20, 2026
1. Who we are
ORBE Allende (“ORBE Allende”, “we”, “us”) is an emerging nonprofit initiative based in Alberta, Canada. It is not yet incorporated or registered as a charity. The initiative is currently led by its co-founders, who are responsible for the personal information handled through this website. You can reach us at hello@orbeallende.org.
2. Our approach
We collect only the personal information we need, we use it only for the purposes described here, and we do not sell it. We aim to handle personal information in line with applicable Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) where they apply, as well as the core principles recognized internationally, such as those of Colombia’s Law 1581 of 2012 and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for visitors in those jurisdictions.
3. Information we collect
Information you choose to send us. You can contact us by email, by WhatsApp at +1 (403) 325-3132, or through our contact form. The contact form opens your own email application with a pre-filled message addressed to hello@orbeallende.org. Nothing you type in the form is stored on our website; we only receive what you actually send by email. This usually includes your name, email address, country of residence, the reason for contacting us and your message. Volunteers, guests, partners and workshop participants may also share professional or biographical details.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider’s servers automatically record technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device information, pages requested, date and time, and referring page. This is used for security, troubleshooting and preventing abuse. See our Cookie Policy for information about cookies.
Information we do not want. Please do not send passports, immigration records, government ID numbers, financial information, health information or other sensitive documents through our website or general email. ORBE Allende does not provide individual case assistance through this website.
4. How we use information
- To respond to your questions and requests;
- To organize workshops, events, podcast episodes and volunteer or partnership activities you have asked to take part in;
- To send updates or newsletters only if you have asked to receive them (you can unsubscribe at any time);
- To keep the website secure, prevent spam and abuse, and fix technical problems;
- To understand, in aggregate, how the website is used, only where you have consented to analytics cookies;
- To meet legal obligations and protect our rights.
5. Consent
By sending us information, you consent to its use for the purpose for which you provided it. Where required, we will ask for your express consent, for example before sending you newsletters. Consistent with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), every commercial electronic message we send will identify us and include a way to unsubscribe. You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions, by writing to hello@orbeallende.org.
6. How we share information
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only as needed with service providers that help us operate, under confidentiality and security obligations, including:
- Website hosting and domain services (Namecheap), which host the website and its server logs and back-ups;
- Email services: messages sent to hello@orbeallende.org are forwarded to a Google (Gmail) mailbox managed by ORBE Allende;
- WhatsApp (Meta): if you choose to message us on WhatsApp, your messages, phone number and profile information are processed by WhatsApp under its own terms and privacy policy;
- Google Fonts, which delivers the typefaces used on this website; your browser connects to Google’s servers to load them, which shares your IP address with Google;
- Website tools such as our cookie-consent, security and spam-protection software.
With your permission, we may introduce you to qualified, authorized professionals or partner organizations. We will not share your information with them without your agreement. We may also disclose information where required or permitted by law.
7. Where information is stored
Our service providers may store or process information on servers located outside Alberta and outside Canada, including in the United States. Information processed in another country is subject to that country’s laws and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities. If you have questions about the use of service providers outside Canada, contact us.
8. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described above or as required by law. General enquiries are normally deleted within 24 months after our last communication, unless you are an ongoing volunteer, guest, partner or subscriber. Server logs and back-ups are kept for the limited periods set by our hosting provider.
9. Security
We use reasonable safeguards for the sensitivity of the information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, restricted administrator access, login protection, regular updates and back-ups. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so please avoid sending sensitive information by email.
10. Your rights and choices
- Ask whether we hold personal information about you and request access to it;
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- Withdraw consent or unsubscribe from communications;
- Ask us to delete your information where we are not required to keep it;
- Manage cookie preferences at any time through the cookie settings on our website.
We will respond within 30 days, as required under Canadian privacy law. We may need to verify your identity. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or the data-protection authority in your country.
11. Children
This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through this website. Young people should involve a parent, guardian or trusted adult before contacting us. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. External links and social media
Our website may link to other websites, video platforms and social media pages, such as our podcast channels. Their privacy practices are their own; please review their policies.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as ORBE Allende develops, for example when we incorporate, register as a charity or add new services. We will post the updated version here with a new “Last updated” date.
Please write “Privacy” in the subject line so we can respond promptly.
